The Sedalia Democrat (January 27, 1946)
The Travels of Mary Ward‘s sponsorship by Montgomery Ward was dropped in 1937 and in 1938 Caroline Ellis found a new sponsor, General Mills, to bring her new series Caroline’s Golden Store to the airwaves.

A nice profile of Caroline Ellis from the Des Moines Tribune (March 3, 1940) during her run with Caroline’s Golden Store.

You can read more in my book about how Ellis wove the commercials into the daily scripts of Caroline’s Golden Store in contrast to the standard plugs common on the period’s soap operas (Belvidere Daily Republican, July 27, 1939).

Not sure how accurate this clip from the July 26, 1939, Pittsburgh Press is. Nothing vaguely resembling a horror story has survived in her personal papers.

Guila Adams as reported by the Wisconsin State Journal (July 15, 1939).

A short bio of Caroline Ellis from the July 3, 1939 Pittsburgh Press.

Virginia Jones was identified as one of the cast members of Caroline’s Golden Store in this June 6, 1939 Pittsburgh Press note.
This plug for the debut broadcast of Caroline’s Golden Store (Monday, June 5) is from the Cincinnati Enquirer.
